In  the area of pet rescue, we throw out a bunch of terms and words that we assume everyone knows the meaning of.   So lets see how many terms we can identify and give them a meaning.  We are always adding to this list so feel free to add your comments regarding any we missed.... We want to thank our many friends on social media with helping us with the definitions.

 

1. What is a Rescue dog? 
A.  A DISNEY MOVIE Pluto, is a rescue dog in the frozen north.
B.  When you buy a  dog for life.
C.  A dog that has been saved from an abusive or neglectful home.
D.  Any dog or cat can be considered a “rescue” these days. One man who bought “rescued” his purebred dog from a pet shop. He sincerely believes his dog is a “rescue.”

A rescue dog is  a dog that is rescued from a possible euthanasia after being found as a stray, a dog that has been saved from an abusive or neglectful home by an animal rescue organization, or a dog that is simply no longer wanted or can no longer be cared for by its owner.

 
2. WHAT does UTD mean?

3. What is a Purebred rescue?
A.  Purebred bred for many generations from member of a recognized breed or strain.

C.   Volunteers who dedicate their time and resources to saving their breed from shelters or helping dogs when their family can no longer keep them.

4. Do you know what "foster failure" means?
A.  A heartless  person who did not keep a foster, but gave up a dog to a forever home.

D. A dog that is re-homed and then back to foster, or a foster that was supposed to be adopted but ended up staying.

"Hair of the dog" is a colloquial expression in the English language predominantly used to refer to alcohol that is consumed with the aim of lessening the effects of a hangover. The expression originally referred to a method of treatment of a rabid dog bite by placing hair  from the dog in the bite wound.
