If you or your pet are attacked or bitten by another domestic animal, i.e. dog, cat or ferret, remember that a rabies tag is not actually proof of rabies vaccination.
The tag itself usually contains a number which is issued by the county animal control agency, or vet office. The tag is a form of registration. In order to be sure that the animal in question is currently vaccinated, ask to see the rabies certificate issued by the vet, or a printed receipt that shows the date on which the animal was vaccinated, and when that vaccination expires.
NOTE FROM BTN: I may have found something new to collect... rabie rags. How many of you save your rabies tags? If you do how do you display them?
